Sleepypod in the Spotlight: Providing a comfortable and safe way for pets to travel

What do you think of when you hear the word “Sleepypod?” The idea of snuggles and coziness comes to mind for me. Well, that is precisely what Sleepypod has to offer the pet community. Their “mobile pet bed provides comfortable sleeping and safety, so the newly created word represents those features.”

13 years ago, Melony Lee and Michael Leung founded Sleepypod, inspired by their cat, Rawl. Melony and Michael wanted to create a product that allowed Rawl to travel in comfort, safety and style. They both had degrees in design, and used these skills to create a line of travel products.

Center for Pet Safety caught wind that Sleepypod was making a car safety harness and encouraged them to get certified, which is exactly what Melony and Michael did. It took 1.5 years to complete the model. Sleepypod now offers safety restraint solutions for dogs of all sizes, up to 90 pounds. Here is a list of their products, which have ALL been certified by the Center for Pet Safety.

An important aspect of Sleepypod’s work is reflected in their crash test dog. Instead of using just standard weight, the weight of Sleepypod's crash test dog is distributed, with articulated joints so that the waist and legs can bend. It has a neck and spinal structure that flexes like a real dog. It can measure the amount of force placed on the chest, and also has a video camera in the head to record point of view. A proper test dog is a crucial aspect to understanding the effectiveness of a product. Check out their exceptional crash test dog here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nb210V0_on8.

Sleepypod is working on solutions for extra large dogs over 90 pounds, as well as creating a specialized harness for Greyhounds, Whippets, Salukis, Afghan Hounds, and Borzoi dogs with unique body types. Currently, there are no Center for Pet Safety certified harnesses available for these breeds. Sleepypod is engaged in tackling this problem. There will also be new products coming out in the fall, so stay tuned!

Sleepypod's quality work is what pet parents are looking for and need. Over the years, Sleepypod received reports about pets saved in more than 40 reported accidents. Injuries and casualties are being prevented. Take a moment to read some real life stories. What happens if you and your pup are in an accident tomorrow? Is your best friend protected?

Piper’s Walk is thankful for Sleepypod’s dedication to keeping pets safe. The pet industry needs more people like Melony and Michael, individuals who deeply care for the well being of our companion animals. A big thank you goes out to them for continuing to create trustworthy products for pets of all shapes and sizes. For more information, visit www.sleepypod.com.
